Claude Code ads and Codex ads, explained — and how they pay you

June 16, 2026 · By AdVibing

What are Claude Code ads and Codex ads?

Claude Code ads and Codex ads are the same simple idea: a single, clearly-labeled sponsored line that appears in your AI coding agent's spinner — the moment Claude Code or Codex is actually working. They are opt-in and content-free. The ad has nothing to do with what you're building, and your code, files, and prompts are never read or sent. When the agent goes idle, the line disappears.

No banners, no pop-ups, and nothing while you read or type. It's the calmest ad format a developer tool can have — and it pays you.

Where the ad shows

AdVibing can place the sponsored line on two surfaces, both gated on real work:

  • In the terminal — the status line, plus a sponsor word in Claude Code's spinner, via the advibing CLI.
  • In the editor panel — Claude Code ads and Codex ads inside the VS Code panel, via the AdVibing extension. It rides along in the agent's spinner while it's thinking, and is gone when it's idle.

Both surfaces share one account, so every impression credits the same balance.

How you earn from Claude Code ads and Codex ads

Advertisers bid for the slot in a second-price auction. You keep up to 50% of the clearing price — credited per impression, with a click worth far more than an impression. Earnings accrue to your balance and become withdrawable to your bank through Stripe after a short hold.

Because impressions are work-gated — they only count while your agent is genuinely computing — opening ten idle terminals doesn't multiply anything, and advertisers only pay for real, focused exposure.

Are they private?

Yes. Claude Code ads and Codex ads are content-free by design. The slot is independent of your work: your code, files, and prompts are never read, analyzed, or transmitted. Only anonymous, work-gated impression and click counts ever leave your machine, and every paid line is clearly marked "Ad."

How to turn them on

Install the CLI and opt in:

npm i -g advibing
advibing install

Or install the AdVibing VS Code extension for Claude Code ads and Codex ads right inside the editor panel. Either way it's fully reversible — set the ad intensity anywhere from 0 to 100%, or turn it off completely with one command, and it leaves no trace.

For advertisers

Claude Code ads and Codex ads reach developers in a uniquely focused moment — while they wait on their agent — without tracking, profiling, or touching their code. Pre-fund a balance and bid; you pay a second-price clearing rate only for verified, work-gated impressions and clicks.
